YA movie news

Spring seems to be popping up more than roses as it seems to be the season for movies adapted from YA books. While the past has seen the release of many teen books turned into movies (most recently The Hunger Games and the Twilight series) next spring will see a large release of these box office winners. Here’s a little taste of what to expect next year:

  • Beautiful Creatures by duo Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl is currently filming with an all-star cast (including one of my favorites, Emma Thompson) and is scheduled for release on February 1, 2013.
  • The Seventh Son, an adaptation of the John Dulaney’s first book in The Last Apprentice Series, is scheduled for a February 15, 2013 release.
  • Orson Scott Card’s famous sci-fi novel, Ender’s Game, will finally make it to the big screen with a release date of March 15, 2013 (has been pushed back to Nov. 2013)
  • Percy Jackson, Sea of Monsters movie is set to start filming and scheduled to be released on March 27, 2013.
  • City of Bones, the first book in the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, has finally gotten a release date of April 23, 2013. Lilly Collins, who stars in the current movie Mirror, Mirror, is signed to play Clary Fray. (Moved to August).
  • Stephanie Meyer’s adult book, The Host, will come to the big screen on March 29.
  • Catching Fire, the 2nd book in The Hunger Games Trilogy, is scheduled to be released in August of 2013.
